Restaurante Bar Sur

Website for Restaurante Bar Sur in Ávila with its own app: the manager uploads the daily menu PDF from a phone and the site updates itself.

Case study

A restaurant website that publishes the daily menu from a PDF

The challenge

Restaurante Bar Sur is a restaurant and café serving home-style Castilian cooking in Ávila, opposite the Provincial Hospital. Its main draw is the daily set menu, which changes every day, alongside the à la carte menu, weekend menus and home delivery.

The daily menu is prepared every morning as a PDF. Copying it into the website by hand was slow and, since hardly anyone had time to do it, the site often showed old dishes and prices on its most visited page.

The goal: keep the website menu always up to date with no extra work for the team, and make the site look great on mobile, where most visits come from.

Our solution

We designed the website with Bricks Builder on WordPress: home page, menus, à la carte, prices, café, home delivery and bookings, with local SEO for searches such as “daily menu in Ávila”.

For the daily menu we built a custom plugin that reads the PDF: it recognises the date, starters, mains, desserts and prices, and publishes them on the site in the restaurant's format. Before publishing, the manager sees which dishes and prices change and confirms with one button. New prices are also applied to the price tables.

Everything is managed from a private area with its own manager role, without entering the WordPress dashboard. We also turned it into an installable app (PWA): on Android, sharing the PDF from WhatsApp or email to the “Bar Sur” app opens it already read.

Finally we polished the mobile experience: parallax backgrounds that also work on iPhone, photos cropped vertically for small screens and sticky headers on the price tables.
